Sawtelle's churro stand

You did the Sawtelle Japantown crawl — ramen, tsukemen, maybe a curry — and now you want dessert that isn't another line. Keep rolling south down Sawtelle Blvd: our stand sits at the corner of National, and the churros don't exist until you order them. That first bite, still hot from the fryer, is the whole point.

This is our home turf. The recipe came from a retired churrero in Madrid — the original Spanish dough, no eggs, no dairy, no lard — finished the LA way with cinnamon and sugar. Dip them in cajeta or chocolate, or go classic with a cup of Häagen-Dazs melting alongside.
